Incidentally, if you're looking for a useful trick to cull email quickly: sort and group by From, then scan for automated emails and/or people you don't care about. My preference is still CTRL-A + DEL but these days I can't really get away with that.
It’s possible we could have saved them had we moved them into the garage. Also unheated, but warmer than the shed. So. This year… same process, but storing in the garage. Monthly check: we check monthly for moisture (don’t let them dry out), mold, and rot. Cull any rotten ones ASAP.

In my area in a few years it's gone from, oh cool, there's a few green birds in the trees to, holy shit, what's that cacophony? I doubt you could even cull them now - there's so many of them and they clearly can just breed back from just a few of them.
