It's not the most impactful, but one piece of transportation infrastructure that always makes me smile is this signalized crossing with one button for pedestrians and cyclists, and another higher up so you can reach it from a horse
Just thinking out loud that we had covid then WFH, cost of living crisis, then National firing the Public Service workers and now we have thousands leaving NZ. So if Pandoro and then Bordeaux and then many other hospo companies are failing can we really blame the cars and cyclists?
Cyclists: I am entitled to the same rights and responsibilities as a car! Also Cyclists: This stop sign is for someone else and doesn’t apply to me.
never forget
@davidho.bsky.social These are all over Toronto and I can't stand them. These were in place as a happy medium for emergency services. I know the city is beginning to transition some of these to dedicated bike lanes, but these soft barriers are still a huge safety risk for cyclists.
Ergo, cyclists trend towards being dicks, and drivers (unfairly) assume all cyclists are dicks as a result. tl;dr I think drivers hate cyclists b/c cyclists feel they have to be a lil bit of an asshole just to survive.
I believe this is something of a self-fulfilling prophecy in a way, b/c I think (at least in North America) having to share the road with cars causes cyclists to self-select for certain... Aggressive personality traits.
like, this is enshrined in law (article 185 Wvw if anyone's wondering), cyclists and pedestrians are considered 'weak participants in traffic' or w/e and the driver is automatically at fault in case of an accident, barring some very specific situations
