I used to op on the DALnet Windows95 channel (blast from the past for those who know, I'm sure), and I'd frequently lurk just voiced and Op up when people saw it was just the mostly useless bot opped up in there, and start trouble. An elegant weapon for a more civilised age.

lol, right!? This with a serial cable to the tower, we eventually got a 56k internal ISA. It was slow in today’s standards, but man it was cool to be one of the only kids with internet back then. Getting on IRC with all those chat rooms on DALnet and EFnet mostly. That was my first intro to kink 😎

eventually that channel moved to dalnet, a much better irc server, but we stayed on efnet because we refused to let ourselves be drawn in by the soft and effete luxuries of the weak and unwarlike squaresoft channel crowd.

I was an op on a Dalnet channel.

I still occasionally run across someone from the 90's IRC days, and have to clarify if they were on efnet or dalnet (or both)

Me too! And also DALnet! What a cool fucking name. Temple of the screaming electron.

Wait, that's the protocol. Okay, I guess that makes me from DALnet
