ALU elements seem to require parts of LINE1 elements for transposition competence, even in stressed cells. One thing I find fascinating is that the duplication of p63 to form p73 and p53 occurred right around the time that DNA methyltrasferases started to specialize. p53 pulls down DNMT3A in co-IP.
