3. THE NEW YORK RIPPER (1982) Fulci crafts something that feels like a DePalma flick that's been left to spoil on a stoop. It oddly presages the latter's BODY DOUBLE, like some kind of repellant John the Baptist sounding the arrival of sickening celluloid.

October book clubs picks are Carrie and The Exorcist and while I didn't sign up to read the latter (I reread it earlier this year and can't face it again so soon) I respect going with the classics and am very excited that the voting all went that way also I am 100% watching the DePalma movie again

BD has my favorite twist in any movie. Still my favorite DePalma. F13 5 has it's faults but it's unintentionally hilarious at times. Not gonna lie, Ethel cracks me up in that one and Juwanna Mann himself steals it. "Damn enchiladas!" 😆

I would never argue that a sadistic aesthetic can’t be beneficial. DePalma, for example, has a sadistic aesthetic, and I find his work fascinating.
