there is one idea ive seen tossed around as a happy medium, which is catering to people playing your hack in a DS-based hypervisor like GBARunner by adapting the game to the entire DS screen space of 256x192. but ive only seen a proof of concept of that kind of thing, who knows if it's really viable
3rd like = 3rd game! rocket slime!!! one of the first games I 100%'d as a child! i cannot recommend it enough. what if you were a slime and operated a big mecha and it was top down and you managed it from the inside.
That was the microphone Nintendo released for the system initially in case the onboard microphone went out on the earlier models of the DS. Unfortunately those microphones were also pretty shoddily manufactured. Check to see if it makes an intense buzzing noise when you turn it on.
One of my favorite memories is waking up with a cold as a child, not being able to go back to sleep, and sitting in my desk chair with a blanket on my head playing animal crossing on my DS lite, and I'm pretty sure I must've looked exactly like that.

6, is a little infamous for some RNG shenanigans, but I like the story If you don't want to play the originals, you can play the 1 and 3 remakes for the DS (3 needs a patch translation) and 2 you can play the remake on 3DS. 4 have very big maps and 5 have the exhaustion system (both on snes)
