There's a pilot program starting for lockers, but I don't think they're big enough to accommodate a lot of ebikes (much less cargo ebikes, which are hugely popular here in Minneapolis). I don't think I've seen Tokyo's underground carousels!
Also add a dash of neighborhood corner stores, restaurants, etc and this place, while not ideal, would greatly elevate this place. ebikes + a safe bike network can also mitigate the problem of sprawl and reduce some car trips. This level of density probably could be "saved" eventually.
The bike storage thing is going to become more and more of an issue everywhere as more people invest in ebikes, I think.
In Oregon ebikes of any definition aren't allowed on sidewalks. (Or maybe that's a Multco law? From the ebike law guide I grabbed at a bike shop)
Remember a few weeks ago when I said I think it's really risky that parents are letting kids under 16 zoom around the neighborhood where I work on motorcycle-ish "ebikes" that go way too fast to be safe? Yeah. It was these things. And people were really shitty to me about it. I was right.
Police say the young man might have hit debris in the bike lane prior to losing control. Police also warned the community that some "e-bikes" can go 35 mph. But I question their use of "e-bicyclist" and "e-bike" in this context. bikeportland.org/2024/10/03/t...
A tragedy in Tualatin and how it's being framed by police and local media.
These "Ebikes" that are in this article are all the direct from China kind. They dont even allow them in CHINA! We just need to enforce the sale of these units. They are all pretty cheap and will eventually fail.
You are right. I was using old information. We used to allow youth with a learnerโs permit (15.5+ yo, passed written driverโs test) to ride class 3 ebikes but now itโs just min 16 yo. And no insurance required now. www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/handb...

I'm continually amazed by how many of my son's classmates get to school on illegal ebikes. Yesterday, when pulling into my neighborhood, I saw a kid almost get into a head-on crash because he was riding on the wrong side of the road. These kids on electric motorcycles are giving ebikes a bad name.
