continuing with the Oriental names (and i wonder this is one of the worst ones you'll come across...) Possible ID: Oriental Latrine Fly (Chrysomya megacephala) (aka oriental blue fly) #Invertebrate#Photography#FlyFriday 🌿 📸📸
Do you want some of the "weekly" ones too? Not as popular here, this far, but we're on Twitter. WaspWednesday, FlyFriday, etc
Prepare to have your mind BLOWN This fly (Fannia sp) was in the meat baited Shannon trap covered in Dermatobia hominis The HUMAN BOTFLY Botflies lay eggs on flies that feed on humans (eggs drop when feeding) so they get other species to act as vectors. & these are larvae! #FySchool24#FlyFriday
I did a bad thing. I’m sure Lee Wulff is spinning in his grave knowing these exist in the world. #flytying#flyfishing#flyfriday
Happy #FlyFriday Today I have a gorgeous Tachinidae from Oz from the @NHM_Diptera - Microtropesa intermedia. This specimen has been in the @NHM_London coll for over a 100 years but is now digitially accessible to all! Lovely looking Punk fly.
Here is pupal perfection For #flyfriday#FossilFriday may I present, from the Natural History Museum paleo collection, a superb example of a Cranefly pupae. The features are so distinctive from this (at least) 40 million year old fly!
It’s #FossilFriday#FlyFriday Its odd to think that when this Cranefly was flying around humans were a long way off from trampling this planet. It’s also odd to think this familiar look fly is at least 40 million years old!
