There's a spectacular gag when Seagoon announces he's going to join the navy, and a great Eccles scene. The running gag about the river police (and variations thereof) is good, and the "And this is where the story really starts" refrain is funny and fits the epic, meandering plot. #GoonForARun

It does have a section set in India with Sellars doing his voice. But as I say, that's true of other episodes. Ah well. A really good episode, as Seagoon steals a truckload of gold from a bank, loses it and then tries to regain his honour in the military. #GoonForARun

Goon Show 5.12: Dishonoured, or The Fall of Neddie Seagoon. This one isn't on Sounds, not sure why as there are episodes on there with (it seems to me) an equal amount of potentially offensive material. There's a short excerpt from the Harry Lime theme, but that would be easy to cut. #GoonForARun

This episode also opens with a parody of The Archers, which at the time had been running just under four years. It's not a particularly clever parody, but the irreverence of them slagging off another show on their network is fun to hear. #GoonForARun

It eventually hits a point where two characters played by Milligan and three played by Sellars are all in the prison at the same time - the type of situation the show usually avoids. But they cope perfectly well. Bluebottle's late appearance is tenuously motivated but funny. #GoonForARun

The show's reset-button approach means they can completely reinvent the characters' backstories each week. In this episode it's revealed Bloodnok and Minnie have a prior romantic connection from his days serving in India. I've not heard those characters connected like that before. #GoonForARun

A line after Geldray's music spot where Grytpype tells Seagoon he dances divinely has been removed, too. Not hard to guess why that was. I don't know how much was usually edited out of these, but it feels like a lot of little bits have been taken out here. #GoonForARun

But interestingly this means we can hear what was cut. There's a reference to a public figure - I've already forgotten the name - which has gone: topical and UK-specific jokes often went. Ellington once again plays a racist caricature of a local, and that's clearly also been edited out. #GoonForARun

Many episodes exist in the form of an edited copy made for overseas sales and a complete but lower-quality recording, presumably made by a listener on original broadcast. These have been stitched back together, and despite the restorers' best efforts you can often hear the join. #GoonForARun

Goon Show 5.10: The Booted Gorilla (Found?). Ned is sent to Africa to capture the Booted Gorilla, which first entails purchasing a collapsible boot shop. I enjoyed the correspondence conducted in drum solos - played live by Ellington, perhaps? #GoonForARunwww.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/...
