When we were writing #HashtagActivism many folks said organizing to save Troy Davis on Twitter was the 1st they believed we could really do racial justice work online. Although we didn’t save him, many networks and strategies came from that moment. But the only just thing would be to have Troy back.
#hashtagactivism was born out of a feminist faculty writing group I started. A group of us would meet in the women’s studies conference room (which of course was off where no one could find us) once a week w/snacks to work on our own projects and guess who some of the other members were :)
#HashtagActivism is indispensable on the history of social media activism on Twitter.
