The issue is that control of the information space (e.g. removing disinformation) is being treated as a "public health intervention" for the "infodemic" to stop more people being "infected". Even though removing disinformation is good, this is a bad way of framing the problem.

As I say, I’ve been guilty of some of this. I used the term “infodemic” in work around that time (indeed, in the co-authored work I did with TDP back when it was back of Te Punaha Matatini, and a book chapter on COVID-19 conspiracy theories in Aotearoa). I regret that now

Since pandemic/infodemic I've studied staggering growth of adversarial threats hitting New Zealand, extending to academia/Uni's, media, & civil society. Incl. DDoS attacks against climate change research orgs. Worrying.
