It's basic respect for the rights of creators, rather than prioritising one's own right to "give" access to anyone simply because one can. I love so much of what the #InternetArchive does with old works, orphaned works, orphaned sites. But distributing work from living authors who don't know? No.
I don't have the right to share someone else's work with the whole world online regardless of whether they're happy about it or not, or whether income from that work is part of their earnings. The #InternetArchive could get a legal release from the owner, respect refusals and avoid the problem.
