He points out that what is happening right now is not ‘Islamophobia’ it’s anti-Palestinian and anti Arab backlash. It is specifically directed at people marked as Palestians- like those that wear keffiyeh, for example-rather than those people marked as Islamic.
like idk if i was a rabbi and the person who comes to shul in a keffiyeh sent me a long message explaining why his post about October 7th is maybe not great, I would spend some time thinking of how to craft a reply
I'm not the first to say it & I said it before, but all the bans on face coverings, both masking for the pandemic & keffiyeh bans, are actually intended by the fascists to prevent you from protecting your identity in protest & to disproportionately target people of color. @olufemiotaiwo.bsky.social
Yup. It's really a keffiyeh ban but they won't come right out and say it.
I am not against you Lux, at all. You asked how people arrived at skepticism of claims of antisemitism, and I am trying to explain how precisely that skepticism is arrived. Consider the report from Columbia below and the Jewish alumni association. "keffiyeh-wearing" bsky.app/profile/rima...
I spoke with artists #DavidHorvitz#AliEyal#keffiyeh#Noguchi@hyperallergic.comhyperallergic.com/956923/la-ar...

And it's been months since that conversation. I absolutely understand the situation she's in because literally I'm probably the most visible pro-Palestinian member (wearing a keffiyeh to shul regularly) and my dad is a highly established, influential, literally pro-genocide member
