In the half light, a red line across the horizon, a Blackbird chitters in the hedge, but as the light increases, two Kestrels over the fields #firstbirdofmyday#WhatsYours ? And that big duck still stands guard over the top field 😂😂
I can see why this is needed. In other fields we see radical changes in flora and fauna. Here, European Kestrels and a bit west, flamingoes!!! Pink birds!! On the Adriatic. Apparently both used exist here, but were gone for decades and more. www.theguardian.com/science/2024...
If you have a sense of adventure and know your squills from your spurges, Cambridge University Botanic Garden may have the job for you
Not quite as impressive but if the local kestrels get too close to the nearby field past the cemetery the crows declare gang war and they will win
We’ve had sparrowhawks in our garden but not at all this close. Kestrels are gorgeous. I remember holding them a couple of times at country fairs etc as a kid and being totally enamoured
Ah right where I'm based then! Work with farmers around the area and always wondered if there were ringers around as did once consider a bit of a owl box project. Nearest I got was just ringing the kestrels at work in Wilson!
1/Beautiful afternoon today cooking and eating teppan barbecue on my balcony. We heard a beautiful trilling call, and from overhead flew kestrels within meters. Beautiful colouring, the little birds used our top floor condo previously as a shelter from rain and place for eating their prey (mantis)..
Lovely day: Highlight was the skeins & skeins of Pink-footed Geese that came in & landed in the cornfield this morn. Also Mipits, RBuntings, Song&Mistle Thrushes, Pied and Grey Wagtails, Kestrels, Ravens, Goldcrests, Cetti's, Chiffchaffs & another Merveille Du Jour in the trap #UKBirding#Teammoth
It's amazing how much nicer birding is on a sunny day! Highlights: Snipe, 60 Linnets, Mipits, Pied Wagtails, Song Thrush, Chiffchaffs, Cetti's, the good flooded field from last year is flooded again & was full of LBB and BH Gulls & Lapwings, Raven, Buzzards, Kestrels, Pinkies #UKBirding
😁 Thanks! I love kestrels. They are the prettiest little raptors.
