I really like rpgs where skills go up naturally by using them. I think Morrowind might be one of the early ones to get it right, but then sorta messed it up as the series became more mainstream. I like spending time planning my character stats. I like that the game lets me mess it up.

I got a lot of my game stuff hooked up, king was playing morrowind on the win98 pc on the left, TV for the 360, crt TV for old games, big TV for modern games, small TV under for vhs. got a recliner to go along with the couch for plentiful seating..

Literally Starfield just looks like 3-4 big sci-fi franchises joined together. Oblivion is LoTR. Skyrim is GoT. Where the fuck did Morrowind come from, comparatively? Daggerfall doesn't look that novel either.

It's kinda wild how aesthetically unique Morrowind is considering everything else Bethesda made afterwards, right?

I don't fucking know how Long Blade ended up in my Major Skills when I swear I picked Short Blade but fuck it I found a saber!!

Cropped screenshot of the Morrowind character stat screen. This screen shows important information like Health, "Fatigue" and Magicka, character level, race and class, in this instance it is a custom class named "sneaky fuck" and divided up into multiple categories. Major, Minor and Misc Skills, with Birthsign which is off screen. Custom class was built with stealth and theft in mind but for some reason ended up having Long Blade in the Major Skill category which, for roleplay reasons, isn't what the thief I'm going for would use.

That might be why Morrowind blew my mind way back when... Still left a big impression on me as my first open world game, though.

I didn't play SF for long because, since Morrowind, when released from "Intro Area 1" I pick a direction and start walking to explore the world. Which Beth is good at (except Fallout4), then do the story when I've had my fill. Glad I didn't do this in SF. Never would have finished anything.
