To expand a bit more, "barge" has a very long history, and is virtually useless as a descriptor of any specific craft. Dutch barges, self-propelled barges and narrowboats are all firmly within the barge niche. In fact I chose it carefully as the one above is neither a narrowboat not true widebeam.

Narrowboats are relatively shallow and fast rising floods can capsize them or flood the engine. Also they need secure mooring points when the waters are fast-moving so if the owners are inexperienced or caught out by flash floods, they may need rescuing.
