The thing about Nazism is that, unlike other forms of bigoted authoritarianism found outside the US, it’s based in part on US policies and sentiments. Calling Republicans the “American Taliban” is a xenophobic disclaiming of responsibility, but calling them Nazis is owning up to our history.
