Say what you will about AI, one thing I have been able to make it do is generate some beautiful fairly beautiful artistic renderings of the lungs in various styles. I've been doing it for a cover page for my resident lectures now for over a year. #PCCM

A more impressionist artistic rendering of a set of lungs, red and blue with almost wispy feathered styling on a khaki background with subtle blue marbling.
An art noveau rendering of the lungs, a golden frame with gossamer in layover two additional lobes made of perhaps overlaid and compressed flower petals, on a forest green background.
A more 1920s style borderline anatomical sketch of the lungs, 3 color mimeograph/print, on a faded dark green background with gilded era inlay.

Typical morphological signs of tobacco abuse: reduction of alveolar tissue (emphysema), pigmented macrophages +/- fibrosis. To acknowledge this I changed from "RB-Pattern" to "... changes compatible with tobacco inhalation" in my reports. What would you rather read in the report? #PathSky#PCCM

Brown pigmented macrophages in the lung. The proper lung tissue is showing signs of interstitial fibrosis.
Airspaces are filled with smokers macrophages (condensate macrophages)
Alveolar tissue is reduced and lung shows fibrosis. This is SRIF (smoking related intertitial fibrosis)

Sometimes I remember that my experience through COVID as a PCCM attending was very different from everyone else’s, and I feel sad.

Here are the two nationwide injunctions that have been entered against the ACA's sex discrimination rule. The July one is limited to gender identity coverage. Today's is not. To see the difference that makes — and how much more it limits — see just the first rule blocked today.

IT IS ORDERED AND ADJUDGED that the July 5, 2024, effective date of the final rule entitled Nondiscrimination in Health Programs and Activities, 89 Fed.
Reg. 37,522 (May 6, 2024) is STAYED nationwide pursuant to 5 U.S.C. § 705, in so far as this final rule is intended to extend discrimination on the basis of sex to
include discrimination on the basis of gender identity in the following regulations:
42 C.F.R. §§ 438.3, 438.206, 440.262, 460.98, 460.112; 45 C.F.R. §§ 92.5, 92.6, 92.7, 92.8, 92.9, 92.10, 92.101, 92.206-211, 92.301, 92.303, 92.304.
IV.
For the reasons explained above, a § 705 stay should apply nationwide but only as to the portions of the Final Rule challenged here. Accordingly, the Court modifies
its previous order (Docket No. 18) and ORDERS that the effective date of the May 6,
2024 Final Rule, Nondiscrimination in Health Programs and Activities, 89 Fed. Reg.
37,522 is STAYED nationwide as to only the following sections: 42 C.F.R.
§$ 438.3(d)(4), 438.206(c)(2), 440.262, 460.98(b)(3), 460.112(a); 45 C.F.R.
§§ 92.101(a)(2) (and all references to this subsection), 92.206(b), 92.207(b)(3)-(5).
So ORDERED and SIGNED this 30th day of August, 2024.
