An honor and a joy to assist Mother Christine this morning at St. John’s as this truly remarkable parish celebrates its 155th anniversary! They have remained faithful to the call of Jesus to “Follow me!” on a pilgrimage of worship, fellowship, and service that mirrors the history of Wichita! ❤️‍🔥⛪️🙏🏼⚓️

I'm a generational Scholes person. It was full to the brim with the Irish after the potato famine. They even built a church, hence the parish is St Patrick's.

Funnily, the parish we then moved to was the one where Joe Montana’s mother attended, which meant that second parish was actually the one who got the memorabilia/tickets/dinner at Joe Montana’s mom’s house where we can’t *promise* he’ll be there but ~anything could happen~ for the festival auction

The chaplain for the 49ers was Monsignor at the parish we attended until I had gotten my First Communion He absolutely mentioned the fact as often as he could make it part of the homily

They've done that at my old parish too. It feels like it was written for the common folk of Transylvania to ward away the vampires at night

I once heard the remark from a Catholic, regarding Southern Baptists' abhorrence of drinking and gambling, that a casino night with a cash bar would be an uncontroversial parish fundraiser. Though not raised Baptist, the notion of a world where this does not even mildly anger God shook me to my core

My Catholic church started praying this after Masses when the pedophilia scandal (I have no words for this horror) hit the parish. It is supposed to be a prayer of protection but now I associate it with unrepentant monsters.

She also, through elementary school, only went to school half a day. The other half of the parish kids went the other half of the day, bc there were too many kids to accommodate in the facilities they had! Like WHAT?? (This was South Philly) (No dunks, all love!)

I finally pieced together that my parents have no idea (and therefore couldn't teach me) how to find community, or build a community, or engage with community because for them it was built in through regular church attendance. Which they abandoned. Mom's school district was defined by PARISH. Gosh.
