I said it makes a big difference so much stuff does like just going to a zoo As an anecdote — when she taught title 1 she was doing phonics with a kid. He had never seen a giraffe or been to zoo or had a zoo book read to him. when they got to G like giraffe it was like saying A is aneurism

Oldest is very much a phonics-reader. It would almost make me crazy when she was first reading because she would take a long time to learn a word by sight. But she could crack any word with phonics. Youngest is a memorizer who has had to work hard at learning phonics.

I was lucky to be a phonics kid but then I kinda knew how to read by then, because my folks read to me when I was tiny. It's stunning how small facts like this potentially have such life-changing effects
