Unexpected Pittsburgh mention in my tiny Japanese mountain hamlet! This dam turbine travelled by ship, then by the railroad that is now the tiny adorable 2-car Johana passenger service, then by horse from Johana to Komaki, then towed upriver into the mountains.

A defunct hydroelectric dam turbine on a plinth as a roadside attraction. There is a bicycle for scale, which is dwarfed by the turbine.
A plaque reading "IP Morris Corporation / Philadelphia PA U.S.A / hydraulic turbine installation patented in Japan under one or more of the patents dated" with six dates from 1920 to 1927.

100%. They are mad because he didn’t like them. He belongs in the hall for his Pittsburgh numbers alone

The Montour Woods Conservation Area close to Pittsburgh International Airportr has several highlights: a small 2ft waterfall, a cave, an old oil well with rusty machinery and pavement of the former PI71L Nike missile site. backpackandsnorkel.c...

driving home on rt 22 from pittsburgh today in the rain, while listening to old god's of applachia was something else. Just carving through the woods and small towns and hills and mountains shrouded in rain and fog as I made my way across PA, Steve Shell's narration keeping me company. Awesome.
