Ibid., p. 39: „Radio can be a crucial memory object' in personal and interpersonal practices of remembering, whether in a small-scale setting or in actively-organized groups dedicated to 'old time' radio and its material heritages […] Objects, moreover, have a particular status within radiophilia, given the strong attachments of radio memories to objects like radio receivers or other souvenirs that can serve as 'memory devices' in acts of remembering, or in prompting certain moods such as nostalgia. Indeed, the perceived 'ephemeral' status of live radio is important in fuelling the desire to render radio sounds in tangible form, as recordings, and in cultural practices of collecting sets, recordings or other memorabilia.“

Feeling happy to finally take delivery of this book. 'Radiophilia' by @carobirdsall.bsky.social takes a deep look how many of us come to love radio. It has been a lifelong relationship for me. 📻 Looking forward to tuning in to this book.

Copy of book called by Radiophilia by Carolyn Birdsall, leant against an old bakelite radio set.
Me holding a copy of a book called by Radiophilia by Carolyn Birdsall, up in front of my face, obscuring my mouth. I'm wearing a poppy, glasses and a black t-shirt. You can see parts of my lounge in the background including a tall plant, a framed photo on the wall, and a glittery lampshade over my shoulder.

“Treating radiophilia as a dynamic cultural phenomenon, it unpacks the various pleasures associated with radio and its sounds, the desire to discover and learn new things via radio, and efforts to record, re-experience, and share radio.” https://www.bloomsbury.com/uk/radiophilia-9781501374968/
