A little while back I wrote about the heat pump installers vying to have the most efficient systems (based on seasonal coefficient of performance, or SCOP, figures). This leaderboard now has two heat pumps (ground and air source) with SCOPS of 5.0! heatpumpmonitor.org
I was asking about Josephs comment about needing upto 40 amps for a hot water heat pump. 20A at 240V is 4.5KW at 120V it's 2.28KW Now include the SCOP of say 4. 240v would give 18KW of heat and 120V would give 9.12KW of heat.

It obviously does calcs for the whole house but it's a friend's house so I didn't want to show the whole thing. Oh, and the "Compact 900" is a radiator as UK systems are almost always water-based. It's got a handy-dandy slider for the flow temp that helps you size rads/calculate the output/SCOP.
