We created an app (works great on mobile) to let people explore Snow Water Storage at the snotel station of their choice! You can see how this year has developed and you can compare end-of-year SWS values over the period of record. Have a look at snowwaterstorage.org
Looks like here in Colorado’s Front Range, we’ve dodge the drought bullet this year, snow-wise, for the time being.
Just box it up and send it to Livingston MT! Or find the Snotel addresses ...
Upside: Snow pack has gone from nearly nothing to 90%+ at most SNOTEL sites.
Lyman Lake Snotel site at 1820 m is the best measure of snowpack for North Cascade glaciers, early 2024 snowpack lowest of last 41 years, that is when we began annual field glacier mass balance monitoring in the range. glaciers.nichols.edu/2023-north-c...
Anne Heggli presented her research about rain-on-snow events at #AGU23#Sierras#SNOTELbit.ly/hegglirainon...#WideOpenScience
This was a fun little project. I like to understand how models work "under the hood." I followed a Medium article to make a very simple neural net from scratch. It uses mean air temp and the day of year to predict snow presence/absence at a Snotel site. Definitely will be useful for teaching!
