Yes, I vividly remember how it felt, the utter panic and violation of self, that even the threat of spanking was. They'd laugh later that they only barely had to touch me for me to break down into tears - they didn't even see the trauma that they were causing. I do not forgive it.
We have *so much* research on the damage that corporal punishmnet does, and I get more pushback on "stop spanking your kids" than almost anything else I post other than "the Oxford comma is important" and "politics are messy".
I think my folks (Mom, mostly) got the knock on effects of the Biblical Parenting movement because they were in Amway at the time and were into James Dobson like everyone else. The really messed up thing, more than just spanking with the wooden spoon, was they would make you BRING IT TO THEM, too.
