But … they’re all sad ones? (Sukkot less so I guess?)

I did college in LA, and the Sukkot people would NOT believe me that I was not Jewish. One of them even asked "Are you sure? What about your mother?" My mother was Patricia O'Neill. Her mother was Margaret McDonald. Not a tremendous number of Irish Jews.

ISRAELI FRIEND: Why are all those religious Jews gathering by the pond? ME: Probably for Tashlich. I mean it is Rosh Hashanah... ISRAELI FRIEND: Tashlich? The throwing bread thing? But someone just played the Shofar. I thought they do that on Sukkot. ME: NO! HOW CAN AN ISRAELI NOT KNOW THIS?!

Goal #8: Be active on Queer Committee at my shul - status: leading gay Sukkot services! Goal #9: Live within walking distance of my shul - status: on hold bc of finances + living near 2 shul members who can give me rides

It’s hilarious that sukkot spelled backwards being tuchas. Which… is also kinda accurate since it’s at the ass end of the high holidays.

My husband's cousin asked me if there were any books I recommended to learn about thew Jewish High Holidays, as he isn't Jewish. Why... yes. For the curious: Celebrating the Jewish Year: The Fall Holidays: Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Sukkot: amzn.to/3BCTzyd

🧵Rosh Hashana is tonight-Friday. Monday is the standard calendar anniversary of the Oct 7 attack; it took place on the holiday of Simchat Torah, which this year is Oct 24/25. In the middle there's Yom Kippur (Oct 11/12) & Sukkot (Oct 16-23). If you're Jewish & facing all that with dread—me, too 💔
