While my wifeā€™s away at a conference, Iā€™ll get a head start on that little home reno weā€™ve been talking about, reconfiguring an abandoned closet into a hallway from the front hall to the back door. #ThisOldHouse ā€œlittleā€ hahahahahahaha 20 hrs of demolition and a lot of debris laterā€¦ šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

On the right, a beautiful old stair case with white trim, wood treads, and a classic newel post. On the left, the walls and ceiling are stripped away, revealing old 2x4 framing and the underside of the stairs. Thereā€™s a refrigerator right in the middle of everything, blocking the access to the back door.
The same staircase seen from the side. The grand old staircase rises bottom right to top left. The stripped wall is a complicated lattice of doorways, studs, pipes, and plaster and lathe. Again, the refrigerator is right in the middle of everything, blocking the passage from front to back.
Big olā€™ pile of debris on the patio in the backyard. Thereā€™s a stack of nasty wood, bristling with nails, and 7 or 8 large, white, and very heavy (trust me!) demolition bags full of yuck.

I have these meh wall sconces in my LR. Two bulbs behind 4 plates of beveled glass. My latest #ThisOldHouse project is wood panels to replace the glass. The panels mimic the Arts & Crafts-style ā€œtulipā€ in the tiles in the fireplace. Looks very nice when the lights cast tulip silhouettes!

Four pictures of the wall sconce in my living room. The light is above a bookshelf full of books and next to a fireplace with an oak mantle over green and blue tiles. Thereā€™s an abstract painting above the mantle with angular stripes of blue, green, gold, and white. Each photo has a different version of the light.
Top-left: old light with 4 glass panels hanging in front of a gold light fixture
Top-right: the old light turned on. Bright light shines out through the glass
Bottom-left: the glass panels are replaced by brown wood panels. Thereā€™s a groove cut through the panels that looks like two stacked letter Ys. The groove mimics the ā€œtulipā€ inset in the tiles on the fireplace
Bottom-right: wood panels with the light turned on. The tulip cut out is very bright and the panels are silhouettes. The double-Y pattern shines out onto the wall beside the light.

Workbench: knolled āœ… Iā€™m making 8 wooden panels for sconces in my living room. You can see them near the middle of the bench, with a ā€œdouble-yā€ cut-out that mimics the tiles on the fireplace. #ThisOldHouse

Overhead view of my workbench. Itā€™s covered in hand tools, maybe 20-30: clamps, knive, saw, chisels, blocks of wood, and more. Everything is laid out mostly in order and lined up.

I'm watching a @PBS @ThisOldHouse episode dedicated to the @paradise_ca. fire thinking @realDonaldTrump came here as @POTUS45 to show support and got the name of the town wrong.
