The first thing I heard by the Pet Shop Boys (thank you WLIR) and why the hit version always sounds too slow. youtu.be/pt_lII1YZS4?...

I hadn’t realized that APB weren’t actually celebrated in the UK; WLIR played they hell out of What Kind of Girl, Rainy Day and I’d Like to Shoot You Down so they were huge on Long Island. youtu.be/oFNadvdO6wU?...

At some point in 1985, Miles Copeland came to WLIR during a Denis McNamara show with a bunch of new releases from IRS and a recording of him singing Every Breath You Take. This is one of the songs he had. (I hate that I recorded that show but tossed the tape during a move) youtu.be/SsmVgoXDq2w?...

I honestly could head most of these posts with “I first heard this on WLIR FM in the 1980s back when they were sending people to London from JFK for a weekend to pick up what was playing in the clubs.” youtu.be/8Y1eiyEMo4k?...

this is just solo acoustic too, I'm not sure why the Live At WLIR record sounds so atrocious compared to the Ryko. but it's the only one "out there" sadly. I have the Ryko on CD.

You, Spider Robinson, and WLIR are the only good things I've known from Long Island

3. Back in 85/86 I would, as all teens did, tape the radio. Pat Duncan’s hardcore show on WFMU, hip hop master mixes on WKTU, KISS FM, WBLS, and “new wave” stuff on WLIR. And I had an LIR tape that had a bunch of stuff I never knew the name of or heard again
