The strongest writing relationships and successes have come through SCBWI, WRAD, and social media. I love in person interactions, but the internet has allowed so many more affordable virtual experiences. Zoom author visits are the best! I gain far more than the kids do! #kidlitchat
As a teacher at an independent school, I have been priced out of having authors visit (even virtual) unless it is WRAD. This year I was quoted prices more than the whole department's book budget. I am glad big district and book stores can pay those kind of fees. Authors deserve it.

Many students have no idea how to tell the difference between what’s meant to inform them and what’s meant to entertain, sell or mislead. Some states are tackling this problem by teaching media literacy. More states must follow.
