I felt like an absolute madwoman suggesting a two hour long lecture on data structures and Big O / Big Theta analysis to a polyglot dev conference. I struggled to get students to attend my algorithms classes when they were obliged to for a degree. And yet, here we are...

I'd like to take a moment to remind the artists out there that you aren't obligated to commit to a full run on any of these challenges, or even to make any art this month at all. Don't burn yourself out over this. There is a lot of pressure to perform, but it's okay to just take a breather.

We all want to get better,
but everyone takes their own path
and moves at their own pace
to get there.

Text is laid out on the page in a way that emphasizes the weighted line breaks.
Every artist is different. They make different art, have different workflows, work at different speeds, and live different lives with different sets of circumstances. But it's easy to feel pressured, especially when you see what other people around you are doing or are fighting internet algorithms that favor constant output. Comparing yourself to other people is a really good way to feel bad about yourself, though.

Art isn't a race.

You aren't in a competition.

Fwiw I couldn't find a single plug-in that was compliant with the Unicode break algorithms, which is what I meant by "naive".

Maybe nothing against you personally! People might first hear a song with Esther on lead vocal and think "this is a band with a female singer". When the track comes along with your lead it feels "off brand" to some of them. (Also, some algorithms, e.g. Pandora, even group female vox together!)

Do I regret journeying beyond many interests? No, but I often feel trapped... on platforms that have these algorithms that demand you to create the same-ish content consistently. Bluesky feels less so, and I'm grateful for that😌 But sorry if my art styles and projects all come across as random.

I tried ChatGPT for the first time yesterday; it gave me stuff Google Scholar and library searches didn't...I dunno how I feel about that yet--structural racism in research algorithms

Huh. I guess it's that they don't use algorithms the same way the dead bird site does. It's more bottom up than top down? It's definitely very interactive, the more information you input via Follows, Feeds, and Subscriptions, the more interesting your experience of the site gets.
