Bought a stack of cassettes at the used record store today. Listening now & the sound quality, even on my crappy little boombox, is so much better than streaming. I think the file compression has increased gradually over the years so I didn't notice it (always knew vinyl was better).
One of the first cassettes I bought was the Enter Sandman cassingle, which had Stone Cold Crazy on the b side. I didn’t know it was a cover for years
this is not cooler than cassettes but you’ve tried your library too right mine has some of the good shit on Libby
Did you change to a different cassette size? I tried the Derailleur hanger extenders but in the end found much better performance from a new derailleur made for wide range cassettes.
“for my own personal recordings.” I’d love to hear some of those! I have a few tapes from Dubbed Tapes (New Zealand)……they record & release new music over old cassettes. Thought perhaps you were doing something similar: dubbedtapes.bandcamp.com/album/guilt-...
Can’t go wrong with Morher. Some of their earlier stuff was released on recorded over recycled cassettes.
While I think owning one's favorites media matters, I don't get why vinyl (and even cassettes) has made a comeback, vs belonging at Goodwill. Tech advances for a reason; spending a bunch of money on new vinyl/tapes, nostalgia or not, seems odd. Plus posters are cheaper (re: "I like the art").
This makes my heart heavy…… What a voice and what musical knowledge soon to leave this earth. I still have cassettes with this man on taped off the radio. Wish I knew half of what he knew about music. A proper DJ. 💔
[39] Memory Cassette - Asleep At a Party I went to college in a place with lots of forest & since cassettes were having a netlabel blogspot moment, I'd get cheap tapes & make little mixtapes of chillwave-adjacent stuff & wander the woods at dusk. Helped me unwind. www.youtube.com/watch?v=DHep...
