It's not as trite as that might make it sound however, there is some VERY good characterization in this movie. It's one of the first kids movies where it feels like the robot thinks (at least at first) like a robot, and yes I am including Wall-E in that. Baymax is the only one I know that's similar
1) A great many westerners do indeed not understand what goes into localization beyond mere translation, and can wax *incredibly* petty based on this ignorance. 2) Bad localizations or those taking way too many liberties with story beats, philosophy & themes, or characterization do in fact exist. +
jason's characterization throughout this webtoon, especially on s3, is simply marvelous. brilliant. fenomenal. im so glad i found a medium that actually portrays him as he is .
but it’s just so fucking funny, because she seems so…I don’t know, sophisticated and proper — which is maybe a characterization I only gave her because she’s from France and therefore speaks French beautifully tbh — so to hear her say *that* was quite the surprise
On yet another one of my many tangents, there was one name change in Yu-Gi-Oh fandom that did A LOT to get me into the ship bc the one in use for 15 yr at that point was fairly derogatory to ½ of the pairing & those using that new ship name generally had a better grip on characterization.

Joke is down just so BAD for Jack and like, I do get it, it's actually delightful characterization. He's been holding onto the guilt and romanticizing their brief interactions throughout his prison term and now every time Jack puts them together in the same sentence he's like 'awww you DO love me'
So much of their original origin is rooted in outdated stereotypes about Native Americans, appropriation of their culture, and outright looting of their artifacts that it's easier to abandon the original story and start over entirely. The characterization of Roy's "Indian servant" is painfully bad.
