Totally agree with you, that was what I was trying to say. I feel like every manager wants to replicate how successful that strategy was with Miller, but they aren’t deploying them in the right situations. Some closers are very uncomfortable coming into a mess and managers seem to ignore that.

Managers love doing weird shit with their closers in the postseason. Terry Francona used Andrew Miller in all those different situations back in 2016 and now it seems like every manager feels compelled to be unconventional. Carlos Mendoza has done this with Edwin Diaz, to very mixed results.
