Took a (needed) break from Wuthering Heights to read How to write romantic comedies by Jane Lovering and Rhoda Baxter One of the best works on writing comedy I've read, really explains different types of humour and how to use it Could have had a lot more depth and exploration of humour thoughts

I have a hard time with 80s comedies

Je m'en fous de ce truc, mais je sens que les execs vont juste voir une raison de plus de ne pas faire de comédies musicales au cinéma et ça m'énerve très fort

I am informed by My Sweet Little Vampire Hottie Of Love that this year's Halloween movie marathon will all be spooky comedies. So, what will y'all be watching?

Chaplin and Buster Keaton are delightful, as is the often overlooked Harold Lloyd. Many of the old westerns are depressing to contemporary eyes. The comedies of the 1930’s are outstanding, especially the Frank Capra films. I hope you’ll post about what you end up seeing, and what you like!

Are there comdey books similar to the Naked Gun movies? https://www.booksns.com/96558/ I don't know if there is name for that kind of comedies. I'm hoping they would be just as good in book format by hbe_bme

AbFab was overrated at the time. But was also of its time - the relentlessly crass 90s. Older comedies have aged better… well, the ones that aren’t cringingly bigoted

I can’t imagine that more than 1-2 dramas from before the 2000 worthy of a rewatch, but easily 5-10 comedies. But yeah, a lot of comedy can feel so much more dated, of its time too much to be enjoyed later, where dramas are more cross-temporally thematic.

💯 It's why I don't watch those shows, or "comedies." (Most comedies just punch down at marginalized folks, and that's not funny to me; it's distressing.)
