I think there is a sector wide as well as a stock specific element here. Plenty of US apparel firms increased production, inventory, marketing on the assumption that the post-COVID goods consumption boom would continue. And now retrenchment is needed. I find it weird how this becomes problem for datacentres specifically, as if they are the driver behind this. As a rough calculation, if every datacentre in the world moved to Florida and relied on evaporative cooling, water consumption would be 1/3 of its agriculture or 2x its lawn irrigation.

if you work for an organisation with a social mission and are exploring how you might use LLMs you need to review any carbon reduction plans you have, due to the energy usage and also think about the ethical and sustainability impacts of water consumption www.context.news/ai/video/for...

Yeah. So if we wanna talk water consumption, using an ENTIRE NUCLEAR REACTOR for AI, is where the bigger water problem lies. Cuz that water is now radioactive and also has to be used to cool down the waste material. Nuclear power is a stopgap for climate change but not for AI.

Could you quote a sentence in that link that says that because I can’t find anything. All I could find is: “Most big tech water consumption for server cooling comes from potable sources. Here, the consumed water is actually evaporated and “lost” into the atmosphere.”

The election this year comes down to turnoutout more than undecided voters. News consumption is directly correlated to voter participation, so it does matter
