5/5 Deglobalization will occur only if and when deficit countries take steps to force the cost of deficient domestic demand back onto the surplus countries. If the latter doesn't happen, the former is unlikely to happen. That's what we learned in the 1930s.
4/5 That's because until then, the costs to deficit economies (rising unemployment or rising debt, and a loss of manufacturing) will continue to accrue. But it is only once policies do reverse these imbalances that we are likely to see the long-expected "deglobalization".
