For me, my mental limiter went away when I figured out I was #trans#HRT .

figures for power consumption of LLMs were taken from the paper for BLOOM, which is legendarily inefficient, and which was not running batch inference or doing any of the other things that are known to dramatically improve efficiency

Pollution is another problem, more of a vanishing gradient/efficiency problem. War as well (a consequence of low balance of power and low transparency, which causes painful miscalculations).

As someone who studied econ as an undergrad at a fancy place, i know the official response is that you just need to put someone in charge who is maximizing profit, and the system mystically converges on perfect efficiency, assuming that everyone is omniscient

Obvious problem with high-variance technologies, be they AI or solutions to aging - balance of power/overfitting. But moderation/morals works, and for AI, transparency and efficiency reqs. for large-scale deployments. Better aging solutions are also changing balance of power, but quite slowly.

Ffs he sexually abused a pastor? How bad does quid pro quo harassment have to be to get not 1, not 2, but 3 cops to risk their careers and sue the guy who has total control over NYPD promotions? And somehow he has that control despite no longer working there! archive.is/RPl9W

A close friend and senior adviser to Mayor Eric Adams was vulgar and abusive toward female subordinates, referred to a gay police official using a homophobic slur and denied a woman a promotion because she resisted his suggestion that they engage in a "quid pro quo sexual relationship," a high-ranking New York Police Department official charges in a lawsuit filed on Tuesday.
The adviser, Timothy Pearson, also once sexually abused a female pastor, manipulated her into having sex with him and was abusive during the encounter about 10 years ago
- prompting her to file a criminal complaint against him, the suit says.
The lawsuit is the fourth action this year to accuse Mr.
Pearson of sexual harassment. Like two of the others, it was brought by a male police official who said he was disgusted by Mr. Pearson's treatment of women at a small unit Mr. Adams created to improve government efficiency.
Still, despite the drumbeat of sexual harassment and other accusations, Mr. Pearson has continued to occupy a position of extraordinary influence in Mr. Adams's administration, exercising near absolute control over most discretionary N.Y.P.D. promotions while holding no formal role at the department, Chief Marmara's lawsuit said.
The suit also names the N.Y.P.D?'s highest-ranking uniformed official, Jeffrey B. Maddrey, and its chief of patrol, John M. Chell, as defendants. It accuses Mr.
Pearson of using his power to deny a promotion to the female officer who resisted his overtures for the "quid pro quo sexual relationship." The lawsuit calls Mr. Pearson a
"poster boy" for retaliatory behavior against women who complain of sexual harassment at the N.Y.P.D.
"It just boggles my mind," Chief Marmara, the police official who brought the most recent suit, said in an interview last week. "He looks at females," he said of Mr.
Pearson, asking "what I can get from them, and the first thing he w

I do think replacing attic insulation can be deducted under the energy efficiency credits in the IRA but I might be wrong

And this guy wants to be the guy who will run the “department of government efficiency”😳
