I realised just now how similar circulation pattern prevailed during all the summer months, especially in Fennoscandia. Persistent ridge in the northeast and east, with trough over the Atlantic. Combine this with exceptional global warmth = recipe for record-breaking temperatures.

In Fennoscandia social groups of Crested Tits & Willow Tits defend carrion against other groups, so must be some benefit, at least sometimes. E.g. boreal winters when seed are scarce it could be important resource. Maybe not vital to persistence/extinction, but an ecol link, like boars/robins in UK.

I am not sure indigineous is a useful framework for Europe at all. As far as i know, the sami moved into northern fennoscandia the same time or even a little later as the Indo Europeans moved into south fennoscandia, with other people living there for 10000 years before?
