Need some new book recommendations. I'm in the mood for fairy stories. Stories like Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, or Brightsword by Lev Grossman. The darker the better and richer the better. Any suggestions?

There it is - the proceeding ones (Conan Doyle, Wilde, Dostoyevsky, *what* a ponce I am) were all free, so that was the first one I paid for.

Screenshot of the start of my "library" in the Kindle app in my phone. The first three books are a Sherlock Holmes anthology by Arthur Conan Doyle, Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky, and The Picture Of Dorian Grey by Oscar Wilde. Then it's The Sea Hates A Coward by Nate Crowley, then The Magicians by Lev Grossman, which, if I may for a moment, is fucking shit. It is a fucking *obvious* post-Potter money grab, and essentially the same thing, but in Ney York or some shit and oooh they swear! Edgy! Then it's Heart Of The Original by Steve Aylett, one of the best and most thought provoking non fiction books I've ever read - essentially an essay about the nature of originality. Then Scoop by Evelyn Waugh (ok) and Kindred by Octavia Butler (brilliant, brutal, uncomfortable).

The over-priced cooking sauce bloke who runs #TheRoyalParkswww.telegraph.co.uk/news/2024/10...

Lloyd Grossman, the chairman of The Royal Parks, has now written to Sir Chris Bryant, the Minister for Creative Industries, Arts and Tourism who has Government responsibility for the parks, requesting that laws are updated.

The letter says the charity’s board wants an amendment to The Royal Parks and Other Open Spaces Regulations 1997 “with a view to setting speed limits for cyclists”.
