The weather is Doing Things again. The low that formed over the Prairies today moved eastward (still over the prairies) with a sharp wind blowing from the west, now. A massive change in temperatures for loads of places, tomorrow.

a line graph of air pressure in Edmonton AB over the last 24 hours, from 10pm Sept 28 to 10pm Sept 29.

It's basically a really wide "u" shape.
Pressure starts off at 101.4 kPa and steadily declines to 100.7 kPa at 3am where it then sort-of stagnates and gradually declines further to 100.5 kPa at 8am, where it stays until noon, where it starts to increase, first fitfully and then all at once (sharply from 100.7 kPa at 4 pm to 101 kPa at 6 pm, and now more gradually, reaching the current high pressure of 101.5 kPa but still increasing.
A surface air pressure map of northern north america for midnight Monday Sept 30.

A low pressure system over the arctic (off the coast of NWT and Nunavut and linking into Greenland) has linked up to a low pressure system over the central-eastern Canadian prairies (Saskatchewan-Manitoba and North Dakota). The sharp changes in air pressure on the east and west sides of the low pressure system hint at strong winds bringing in weather changes with the pressure differentials.

The low from hurricane Helene seems to have mostly dissipated and the eastern half of north america is generally under mild high pressure.

The west coast is also receiving a high pressure system centered around Washington and Oregon, that is pushing the low eastwards both in the prairies and in the arctic.
weather forecast map for Monday Sept 30.

The jet stream has shifted to now run northwards through Manitoba and up through the western shore of Hudson Bay in Nunavut before curving around over northern Quebec into Labrador. It actually looks like it's trying to create some kind of counter-clockwise gyre but it's very disorganized, blowing southwards along the Arctic archipelago islands, then southeastwards from BC to Alberta, then looping north from North Dakota through Manitoba etc, and then headed north to Greenland off shore from Labrador.

The Manitoba jet stream is windy and acts as a temperature transition from hot 20C to 30C on the east in Ontario and cool 0 to 10C in BC, Alberta and much of Saskatchewan. The US NW is also cooling and only the US South retain yesterday's above 30C heat.

Snow in BC,YK, NWT and Arctic islands, rain in SK/MB and in the US SE

Hah! I was supposed to see him in Edmonton and then I had to come back to Manitoba so I sold those tickets and thankfully was able to grab tickets in Winnipeg. You’ll have a great time.
