Cape Cod has lots of weird and creepy names. Falmouth. Mashpee. Woods Hole.

As it got closer, I realized it was an otter. I panicked to find my phone to get a picture. I looked everywhere for it…I realized I was ON MY PHONE with my friend and barely got this picture as it galloped across my yard. I’m told it’s a Mashpee River otter.

No big deal. Just an otter running across my yard.

Good morning. Dropped Doozie at 7 in Mashpee. She is headed to Nantucket with her gang. Whaling Museum. Walk around Lunch. She has been reading up on whaling. I think she could fill in as a docent. We had guests over the weekend. So I am working through laundry.

I think Mass is probably more expensive to live depending where you are than Florida is. I have some experience, I lived in Mashpee (John’s Pond) and Falmouth. Worked at W.H.O.I before joining the Marines.

Reminds me of when, on the Other Site, @sampotts.bsky.social & I mused about East Coast names for cars: Hyundai Swampscott Kia Quincy Mazda Mashpee Dodge Taunton Chevy Gloucester Pontiac Revere Toyota New Hampshire Audi Newport Chrysler Braintree Honda Providence Jaguar EQ Tanglewood edition

A Mashpee river otter climbed my back steps and darted across my lawn while I was talking on the phone. I told my friend and he said "get a picture" so I frantically looked everywhere but couldn't find my phone!! Yep. My phone/camera. Only managed this one shot.

River otter runs across my lawn.

I avoid it if I can. We’re in Mashpee off 151 so Sagamore is easiest coming from the north shore but there have been times when I head down there from PVD and holy hell do I regret it.
