I mean, the whole of the US is racist, but if you look at the most racist parts of the US, they're often the places where white christians are in power. And let's be fucking real, they've had power since the US was formed. And they've used that power to create hell on earth for nonwhite peoples.

Took a mainstream outlet a whole month to write about how a small group of people freaking out about #nonwhite#LGBTQ, &/or female roles are harming genuinely good shows. Another reason this is happening is the people controlling show budgets agree with them at least in part

On Aug. 28, Amandla Stenberg, the lead of the “Star Wars” series “The Acolyte,” posted an eight-and-a-half-minute video to her Instagram Stories about Lucasfilm’s abrupt decision not to pick up the show for a second season just a month after the Season 1 finale streamed on Disney+.

“It’s not a huge shock for me,” Stenberg said. Since the series was announced in 2020, she continued, “we started experiencing a rampage of, I would say, hyper-conservative bigotry and vitriol, prejudice, hatred and hateful language towards us.” (Stenberg was unavailable to comment for this story.)

Th fact that GOP voters don’t even care (including nonwhite, Muslim, and Jewish GOP voters) shows just how far off solid ground we are as a nation.

It’s either neurospicy kids being bullied by ableist adults or nonwhite kids being bullied by racist adults projecting “disrespect for authority” & adult capacity for willful disobedience onto them. (And sometimes it’s both! At the same time! 🙃)

This is a small city with several large, nonwhite immigrant communities. Who’s gonna be rounding them up if Trump wins? Yeah, those “partners.” Fuck that shit. This “partnership” never would’ve happened when I was part of the Friends.

there are no internally displaced persons here — there are "medical refugees", there are no persecuted minorities — there are people who are "underprivileged", there is no genocide here — that is something that only happens in history or that could only happen in the nonwhite world

i am really not qualified to speak on this and obv talking out of my ass here but i think something trans women in general have been doing wrong in the same way american white society does wrong is this assumption of white excellence, that what happens here is different than the nonwhite world.

All I've got is an endnote in my sister's book but maybe @jordanscarroll.bsky.social has more?

Photo of p. 305 in Re-Enchanted: The Rise of Children's Fantasy Literature in the Twentieth Century by Maria Sachiko Cecire. Note 76 reads: "Ursula K. Le Guin's A Wizard of Earthsea provides a counterpoint to this tendency, as Earthsea is a world of predominantly nonwhite people in spite of the castles, villages, and dragons that align the world with traditions of Western fantasy. These racial designations play only a minor role in the novels, however, and the majority of A Wizard of Earthsea book covers depict the protagonist Ged as white."
