'The Rise & Fall of Dinosaurs' by Steve Brusatte. Whilst a tad 'Boys Own Magazine' in style, it's a very compelling account. I learred much from it, along with respect for today's palaeontology. And 'Behave' by Robert Sapolsky - very rich and empathetic (see also his earlier 'A Primate's Memoir')

This is quite dramatic. The Cambrian and the P-Tr boundary are rad's. Here are shown relative contribution of different groups in reef building during the Phanerozoic from just published "Palaeontology" article: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...#Geology#Paleobio#EvoBio

i feel so vindicated seeing people far more experienced in the field of palaeontology than myself clowning on the labocania tyrannosaurid study

I thought about studying that myself, incidentally. Both marine biology and palaeontology were options for me, for a little while.
