At Pride yesterday I bought a raccoon skull and I am Psyched and Delighted to finally own an animal skull Here is a painting of it! #art#watercolor#skull#pb29
I have this tube of phenomenal W&N blue paint for ~20 years, and I was afraid to lose this beauty forever, since I couldn’t find it in W&N colour charts. Finally I cracked the code! I mixed a pretty close one PG50+PB29, and then found out it’s actually mix of phtalos PG7+PB15:1.
For colour theory nerds, the gamut is: - quinacridone magenta (PR122) - pyrrole orange (PO73) - bismuth yellow (PY184) - cobalt teal (PG50) - ultramarine (PB29) Selection by Peter Donahue.
They didn't rely on PB29 as heavily as I thought they would, though there are definitely plenty using it. Happy to see PG50. I probably sound like I'm speaking another language lmfao. Glad to see they're selling individual tubes right away, not just the full set.
lmfao of course Holbein had to make a PR122/PB29 granulating mix. I guarantee that's what the Earthshine Violet they previewed today is. How uninspired.
I hope Holbein will use decent pigments in their mixes. That and I hope they're not like 50% ultramarine mixes like most brands. PB29 & PR122 mixes and the likes from every brand gets boring.
That said, while I technically own a half-pan of lapis lazuli watercolor, I'm deathly afraid to use it. PB29 for me!
Why is the Mijello ultramarine deep watercolor I have a mix of PB29 and PR122. Why. Why is the PR122 in there. Why is PR122 in an ultramarine paint. Hello, welcome to Lau raging about dumb pigment mixes.
I dont have a good camera, but here's my observation: YInMn blue from Schminke is lower chroma but much redder than any of the ultramarine or warm cobalt blues I have.
