I had not seen this quote until recently, but it's the single best encapsulation of the idea I've seen. It's why toxic men are so toxic. The idea that every single expression of love save for one can only come from other males creates cognitive dissonance... sometimes in two different ways.

To say that straight men are heterosexual is only to say that they engage in sex (fucking exclusively with the other sex, i.e., women). All or almost all of that which pertains to love, most straight men reserve exclusively for other men. The people whom they admire, respect, adore, revere, honor, whom they imitate, idolize, and form profound attachments to, whom they are willing to teach and from whom they are willing to learn, and whose respect, admiration, recognition, honor, reverence and love they desire… those are, overwhelmingly, other men. In their relations with women, what passes for respect is kindness, generosity or paternalism; what passes for honor is removal to the pedestal. From women they want devotion, service and sex.

Heterosexual male culture is homoerotic; it is man-loving.

In the story, Liu Yi is a young scholar who becomes embroiled in a fantastical adventure after encountering a mysterious girl, the dragon's daughter. His journey leads him to the underwater realm of the Dragon King, where he is greeted with both reverence and suspicion. 2/2 🎨 《龍宮水府圖》朱玉 元

*snrk* Y'know people get real ruffled up when I don't have special reverence for users who have ~1k followers~ or more. I talk to everyone like people, but when it's with a popular account, they think it's creepy over-familiarity, and respond accordingly. It's fucking weird.

congrats on 1k ! i have a character who is essentially heaven's bounty hunter - he uses no weaponry because he died violently, but carries a cross-staff as the saint of reverence and violent ends <3 gotta stay with the symbolism when you're god's attack dog yknow

The reverence shown toward both book and reader is incredibly beautiful. Top shelf bartending.

It wasn’t a backlash. It was a coordinated hate campaign from the moment photos of Disa, Arondir, Sadoc, Míriel etc were released. They just hid their bigotry behind some pretentious reverence for Tolkien’s work and some weird worship of the PJ films.
