Excuse me,it's un-American not to wish your own hardships upon others. Maybe lack of rickets is what's wrong with the soul of this nation.
And this ain't no "Kids these days are SOFT. In my day we had RICKETS and only ate once a week and it BUILT CHARACTER" shit. Naw. I would rather have kids be picky eaters than be hungry. That shit was no fun and it literally stunted my growth.
Salvarsan was only used to treat syphilis. Sulphonamide, the forgotten first antibiotic, came along in the 1930s, preceding penicillin. Another factor was the discovery of role of codliver oil in preventing rickets (reduction in pelvic deformity with adverse consequences for childbirth).
My grandparents were so early-C20th-Dundee working class they had rickets and stunted growth respectively, and never fed me anything that wasn't boiled or fried (or boiled and then fried), but they definitely ate lobster on holiday. 😉

The thing that scares me about this budget are the likely welfare cuts, because welfare has already been cut to the point that we have a return of rickets, shorter children and people dying, et fucking cetera.
