That's it! It might not look like much, but noticing emotional shock, mind-shaping, and naïve realism in real-time goes a long way to stop us from doubling down on them when past experiences have taught us that they are not helping. It frees up a lot of mental space!
Sadly, a lot of mind-shaping occurs when there’s no other mind in reach. Imaginary conversations are the rule, not the exception. This results in a lot of strain. And this only sets us up for future disappointment as we do nothing but re-affirm the primacy of our point of view.
