True and also a very fair point X3 The cultural context is extremely important. My partner has never actually read StC so we read some of the stories together. It kept weirding him out how Very British this Sonic was and he was pausing a lot to have to explain context to me that I didn't get
Either way all I'm saying if STC!Sonic had facebook, he'd still have his job listed as Archbishop of Banterbury to this day
I haven't had much to add to this reply chain- y'all are both speakin my language 👌- but I also feel part of why STC!Sonic is Like That is because, in addition to the short temper and his baggage, STC!Sonic is a typical British Lad, and British Lads love Banter With The Boys™️;
i think the writers on stc literally said at one point they wrote him this way because people 'with attitude' are literally like that XD MARKETING. i mean even sega's sonic acts like an absolute ass sometimes so yeah lol
which is, as we've established, why his friends can and WILL call him out on it. then he goes and sulks for a while then comes back and tries again lol, because in the end he's still a teenager (even if in stc i think he's written as if on the older end of it) and that's a part people forget XD
(Supes is easily my favorite StC character. Never been happier to share my birthday with a fictional character, haha)
Yeah frankly everyone in stc isn't a perfect good guy (or bad guy) and some people just don't use some actual media literacy when tackling it. (It's also why super sonic is majorly mischaracterised in fanworks). Iirc its pretty common for British comics of that era to do this too.
