Hop. 🪶 #birds#NSbirds

A small, olive-coloured bird with black and white wing stripes hops off a branch at the very top of a dead spruce tree, against a greyish sky.

Why have skinks taken over Australia and not South America? Idk but my guess is competition with other lizards, especially Teiioids. They live in the Americas, but not Australia; and, despite being separated by 200 million years of evolution, can be astoundingly similar to skinks. #Skinktober🧪🦎

We just moved to the Netherlands, to a teeny, tiny village called Haaften. It’s absolutely adorable and beautiful! One of the people down the street has a moat around his house with duck houses all through it! So many varieties of ducks, water fowl, geese, and some black swans!

Pictured is an embankment and moat outside someone’s home with duck houses throughout it. Some ducks are swimming and a few are sitting on the roofs of the duck houses getting some sun. The sun is shining brightly with several trees and plants of all kinds peppering the background.
Another photo of the duck moat. This one shows a family of Dendrocygna/Whistling Ducks sitting along a nice, warm, sunny wall. It’s the early morning, so all the duckies are basking for their morning vitamin D!
Another photo of the duck moat, but of only one duck. The duck species is a male Hooded Merganser. He has stunning black plumage with stark white markings along the sides of his head, behind his eyes, which gives the appearance of large white ears. There also are bold white markings on the lower neck, breast, and white stripes on the wings. The underside of him is a rich brown color.

Yay, I got my rainbow fountain pen (M nib) for which I have waited since the last 21. Sep.! It finally reached my doorstep today morning. I was dying when its shipment (domestic) email was sent to me.

A black plastic fountain pen with various colour stripes on its body. On its cap, 'Little Marcel' is written in red and curved script. Beside that, there is a note saying: "This is a new fountain pen day. I got this rainbow fountain pen (Clairefontaine Little Marcel) for the pride week because every week is pride week.
It doesn't come with a converter, but I found one that fits. How fortunate."

A throwback for Ctenophore Day! 🐡🧪 If you ever wondered how to pronounce Ctenophore, today is October 4, the 10th month, fourth day and it sounds like ten oh four. They are a phylum of marine invertebrates, like this comb jelly which look a bit like jellyfish, but instead of stinging tentacles 🧵1/n

This multimedia piece combines my linocut comb jelly on translucent Japanese paper, and self-flashing rgb LEDs to replicate their incredible bioluminescence. The translucent white comb jelly in in a dark blue glowing rectangle with two stripes of dashes along its body where changing coloured light glows through. The exterior of the box is wrapped in glittering electric blue paper. Below the multimedia piece there is text which reads, “Ele Willoughby, 2012
