Sometime around 11:30 or midnight the peaceful protestors seemed to get replaced by some troublemakers who returned fire with various projectiles. That’s when I’d leave, it’s noble to take a face full of teargas so some peaceful kid won’t have to, less so when the kid is throwing Molotov Cocktails.
I recall the BLM protests of 2020, Govt. goons shooting teargas and worse at people. In Portland we had a wall of veterans and a wall of moms there to protect protestors. The support from those not scheduled for deportation would overwhelm them. They don’t have the “goonpower” to pull it off.
Ten years ago, HKers defied expectations and ran back to the protest site after police fired multiple rounds of teargas, beginning a 79 day occupation for universal suffrage that became known as the Umbrella Movement.
I live maybe five blocks from the epicenter of "CHAZ" in Seattle and the biggest problems were things like....the cops firing off so much teargas in the park that they also tear gassed the residents in the new expensive flimsy condos right across the street.

Substandard, debris-strewn Huntsville streets have bagged another windshield: mine. That makes 3 tire punctures and a windshield in 3+ years since I've been back. But sure, Mayor Tommy Teargas, tell us how the Skybridge will whisk us even farther into the future future future.
